Energy Tips

• Perform a HERS Rating before building
• Never use a batt type insulation
• Roofs should be R-50 or better
• Walls should be R-20 or better
• 1" exterior foam cuts thermal bridging at framing
• Windows should be low-E
• No thermal bypass
• No voids
• Limit window areas, especially on north walls
• Use insulated doors
• Use high efficiency furnaces and boilers
• Insulate under radiant slabs, foils are not insulation
• Prevent exterior flat work ( patios, garage floors, sidewalks) from connecting to radiant slab edges
• Ducts must be leak proof and pressure tested
• Use heeled energy trusses with a minimum 16" heel on pitched roofs.
• Flat roofs trusses need a 16" web at low side
• Trusses are moore ventable than TJIs
• Use heat recovery ventilators
